Reflection

I reflect, within my mind,
On all the things I've done and tried...
Of all the joys and all the pains,
All the losses and All the gains.

I reflect on things long gone,
And wonders that return ere long;
On all the worlds that I have seen,
And ponder on what might have been.

And deep, within my outstretched thoughts,
I ponder on the "And have nots;"
In which my dreams and my delays
Trot past in long successive ways.

"And what now" my thoughts in waves
Return with shovels, dig up graves.
And chasing after untried doors,
Find within unsought rewards.

So here's the comfort, here the pain,
Of living in a world untame,
And here's the challenge, "gaze at stars,"
For who will win, in our hearts wars.

This poem was written on January 9, 2007. It is a study in traditional, rather than modern, poetic form.

I really like this poem, I think it's one of your best (of the ones I've read anyway) :-) but then, I like traditional poetry far better than the modern stuff :-)

I should also mention, that I was very closely influence by the poetry of JRR Tolkien while writing this poem. Particularly his traveling song, which has verses throughout the trilogy.
